Part installation, part drop-in artist workshop - wander through a towering floral wonderland and discover where fresh blooms end and paper petals begin

About A Room in Bloom

Step into A Room in Bloom and wander through a larger-than-life floral wonderland where fresh, locally grown flowers and intricate paper art blur the line between nature and imagination. Starting at your feet and growing high above your head, this blooming installation is full of surprises. Look closely… can you tell the difference between a petal and a piece of paper?

But don’t just stop and stare. Join paper artist Yvette Ja inside the installation and create your own paper flower in a relaxed, hands-on workshop. As you fold, shape and craft, you’ll discover the hidden stories behind the flowers that fill our lives; from supermarket bouquets to garden blooms and the wildflowers growing through cracks in the pavement.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • A stunning walk-through installation where fresh flowers and intricate paper art blend into a larger-than-life floral wonderland.

  • A relaxed, drop-in creative workshop led by paper artist Yvette Ja, an opportunity to create your own paper flower and reflect on the stories behind the blooms that fill our everyday lives.

  • A calm and welcoming environment, accompanied by a reflective soundtrack and information about the community growers and organisations who helped bring the installation to life.

  • You are allowed to take photos of the installation – it will be very Instagrammable.

  • 11am – 5pm (Saturday) & 11am – 4pm (Sunday)

CREATIVE TEAM

A Room in Bloom is designed and built by florist and flower farmer Roisin Taylor (Verde Flower Co) and paper artist Yvette Ja – it is produced by Northern Sky Creative.

This project is co-created with numerous community groups from across Newcastle:

  • Within A Room in Bloom, you’ll find flowers grown by a network of Community Growers hailing from Newcastle’s parks, community gardens and environment projects, such as Ouseburn Farm, Shieldfield Art Works, Scotswood Community Garden, Pendower Good Neighbour Project and more.

  • Living in harmony with the community-grown flowers, you’ll find paper blooms that were created in workshops with Newcastle residents during the lead up to NOVUM Summer Festival.
