CHRIS MORTON | “F**K DANCE, LET’S ART...”

Chris Morton, award-winning album cover designer; famously known as the original art director at Stiff Records, produced the first ever punk single, bag & label. He also de- signed the iconic & much copied “F**k Dance, Let’s Art...” T-shirt and the “Home Taping is killing the industry” logo (which it wasn’t & didn’t..)

This important exhibition of one of Newcastle’s creative legends includes a print collabo- ration with Peter Blake for Ian Dury and the Blockheads. Plus, album covers and posters for Theatre of Hate, Siouxsie & the Banshees, Clash, The Beat, Ledernacken, Tom Ver- laine, Scott Walker, Philip Glass, Feargal Sharkey, Thin Lizzy, Dave Edmunds, Stray Cats, Black Uhuru, Dire Straits and many more.

Also showing are album covers for Madness, Lene Lovich, Richard Hell, Wreckless Eric & Plasmatics along with many more from Stiff Record’s roster.

Underpinning this amazing collection is a timeline of “How To Make An Album Cover* before Photoshop...” Tracking a design history from analogue design methods & tech- niques used for printing before the dawn of the digital age....
