gerson & kuamen

12th - 29th September, 2023

public event: Friday, 29th September 2023 (tbc)

NCA PRESENTS Antonin Gerson & Kuamen as the inaugural artists in residence.

Antonin Gerson is an artist/curator/musician, based in Brussels working in both France and Belgium. Very sensitive to the noises that surround him Gerson has cultivated a sound dimension as the common thread of his work.

Alongside field recording and sampling linked to the experience of spatialized sound, Gerson has maintained a musical practice initiated at the age of 6 at the Conservatoire.

In 2019, Gerson had a solo exhibition at «18» in Marrakech during a residency in collaboration with the French Institute and also received the prize from the French Community Commission which allowed him to make his first solo exhibition in Belgium.

Kuamen
is an artist based in France. Born in London of a Congolese father and a Mauritian mother who met in Russia, Kuamen has lived for more than 30 years in a Aulnay sous bois (French disfranchised suburb), the source of his inspiration.

As an artist Kuamen aims to create spaces for dialogue with the oppressed people from the housing projects he came from (suburbs of Paris). Self-taught, his interdisciplinary practice includes music, poetry, video, painting, photography, performance, sculpture and installation which investigate social behaviors and injustices from his multi-ethnic minority standpoint.
